Materials List: cardboard shipping box, 2 sheets of foamcore, framers, linen tape, or clear shipping tape, a very sharp razor blade, tape measure, and a straight edge. To cut foamcore, mark your line, then cut using the blade against the straight edge - it takes about 3 passes to cut through cleanly. Dull blades leave jagged edges.
NOTE: Fill the void between the foamcore inner box and the outer cardboard box with bubble wrap to stabilize and protect the artwork.

Version Two - click on the images for an enlarged view
Materials List: cardboard shipping box, two sheets of foamcore, foam padding (I used a mattress topper and cut it to size with scissors) ATG tape or glue to attach the foam padding to the foamcore, tape to attach the pieces to form the "book" , a sharp razor blade, tape measure and a straightedge.
IMPORTANT NOTE: BE SURE TO PROTECT THE CORNERS OF YOUR FRAMES BY WRAPPING THEM IN CARDBOARD CORNERS OR BUBBLE WRAP. ADDING A "FALSE BOTTOM" TO THE BOTTOM OF THE BOX BEFORE SLIPPING IN THE PADDED SECTION WILL ADD ADDITIONAL PROTECTION, KEEPING THE CORNERS AWAY FROM "IMPACT" IF THE BOX IS DROPPED. THERE'S NO GUARANTEE THAT THE PEOPLE SENDING YOUR PAINTING BACK TO YOU WILL WRAP IT AS CAREFULLY AS YOU DID, SO I'VE FOUND IT NECESSARY TO ADD THIS PROTECTION TO MY OWN BOXES.
